1. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file placed on your device when you visit a site. It can, for example, remember your preferences or measure how the site is used. We also use similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage.
Some cookies are placed by Zone H2O(« first-party » cookies), others by providers we use (« third-party » cookies), such as our traffic measurement and advertising tools.
2. Our approach to consent
Non-essential cookies stay off by default. Nothing used for traffic measurement, heatmaps, session recordings or advertising loads until you have accepted in our consent banner.
You can change your mind at any time and adjust each category separately:
3. The categories we use
Essential cookies — always on
Required for the site to work and to keep it secure. They include the cookie that remembers your cookie choice, and local storage that keeps track of how you arrived on the site (from an ad, for example) in case you write to us. That information stays on your device and is only transmitted when you submit a form.
Traffic measurement — with your permission
Helps us understand how the site is used so we can improve it: pages viewed, where visitors came from, devices. This category also enables the heatmaps and session recordings described below.
Advertising and remarketing — with your permission
Lets us measure how well our ad campaigns work and show you offers that are relevant to you.
We also use a cookieless traffic measurement tool (Ahrefs), which produces anonymized statistics without placing a file on your device or identifying you.
4. The detailed list
| Cookie | Category | Placed by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
zh2o_consent | Essential | Zone H2O | Remembers your cookie choice | Until you change your choice |
_ga | Traffic measurement | Google (Analytics) | Distinguishes visitors | 2 years |
_gid | Traffic measurement | Google (Analytics) | Distinguishes visitors | 24 hours |
_clck | Traffic measurement | Microsoft (Clarity) | Links your visits to an anonymous identifier | 1 year |
_clsk | Traffic measurement | Microsoft (Clarity) | Groups the pages of a single visit | 1 day |
_gcl_au (and other _gcl_*) | Advertising | Google (Ads) | Measures conversions coming from ads | 90 days |
Names and durations may vary slightly as our providers update their tools. This list is kept current to the best of our knowledge.
5. Heatmaps and session recordings
With your permission, we use Microsoft Clarity to produce heatmaps (the areas people look at or click most) and session recordings (the path of a visit: movements, clicks, scrolling). These tools help us spot what works and what gets in the way, so we can improve the site.
These recordings are configured to mask sensitive information: what you type into form fields (name, email, phone, message) is not captured in the clear. This is not live viewing, and it does not capture your camera or your microphone.
6. Third-party cookies and processing outside Quebec
The measurement and advertising cookies are provided by Google and Microsoft, companies established in the United States. The associated information may therefore be processed outside Quebec. You will find the details of these communications and the protections in place in our privacy policy.
7. Managing or deleting cookies
You stay in control, in two ways:
- From our site: reopen the preferences panel to turn each category on or off.
- From your browser: most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking essential cookies may, however, prevent parts of the site from working.
8. Contact us
A question about cookies or about your preferences? Write to us. Our contact details and the person responsible for the protection of personal information are in our privacy policy.
